Well it seems the promotion roller coaster continues it's steady progress - I got promised another raise this week and it seems that I am finally heading towards what i long thought would be an impossible goal - financial security.
I am officially not sure what it is I do to get promoted - I mean basically I am arrogant, opinionated and probing at all times. Yet those very character traits seem to be the very things others value so highly. I have been told that I can expect to continue to progress through the rungs and could expect to be a senior manager within four years (I will be forty then - now that is scary). Why should i get promoted when others who are more generous of spirit, nicer and honestly better people continue to get missed or passed over ?
Willet a good friend of mine would seem to have found a way off the rollercoaster and my hats off to him, wish i had his courage.

Arrogant, opinionated and probing.
That is a harsh way to describe yourself and I guess when you are at your worst you can tend towards those traits, but.....
Instead of Arrogance, I would describe you as confident.
Instead of opinionated, I would describe you as intelligent and well educated.
Instead of probing, I would describe you as a critical thinker, able to view what is presented with insight.
I can easily see why you would be getting those promotions. Intelligent, confident thinkers are quite a rare breed and while you may know people who are more generous, kind or friendly, you are also a generous and kind person. You are a very good friend.
I think Willett has just jumped off one roller coaster and replaced it with another. Nothing wrong with the promotion roller coaster.
