Sadly I suspect I am finally officially having a mid life crisis, it was inevitable really that this would occur (too many neurosis for words here). I suspect the real struggle I am having is that based on latest data I will be working (if i live this long) till I am 65, almost thirty years from now. So once you realise that, you also realise that you may not want to do what you are currently doing for the next thirty years. Yet, we are taught from a young age to look towards the goal of income and a long retirement - probably a thing of the past, my guess would be, based on the latest demographic figures. So if you can expect to be working for such a long time and you can expect even in these the days of kids staying at home longer than they used too, that you will have a number of working years with no kids at all - do you really need to chase the golden dollar ?
Of course most people actually chase the golden rule of respect and work value (by sheer arrogance that mean's in my case promotion after promotion). But even then I think most people feel vaguely disastified at work (particularly in Canberra - a corporate town if ever there was one, where output is often very hard to measure indeed). We want to know what we do makes a difference, usually for the better and yet how do you do so?
On another note - I suspect if I really believed in something with my heart soul and mind then this would not even be a problem, what does it mean to be a believer who believes as a result of intellectual as opposed to emotional decisions? It means you doubt yourself every day and yet you know you are right at the same time - trust me on this that's as bizarre as it gets

I am going to enjoy reading this.
I miss hearing what you think about these sorts of things.
I always new you were quite insane and now I know why :)
Finding something that you love that also provides an income is one of life's great challenges. I'm finding that no matter how fulfilling the rest of your life is away from work, if work is unfulfilling then it leaves a big hole.
I know you are a budding capitalist, but I think it's time for some soul searching. ;)
